There goes a piece of my childhood

BBC News – Dandy owner DC Thomson to end comic’s printed edition

I used to get the Beano and the Dandy every week. I used to love Dennis the Menace, The Bash Street Kids and Bananaman. I still say that someone’s a Plug when I mean they’re ugly. Me and my cousins even used to have our own Dandytown in my bedroom. Hopefully the Dandy will continue online but it just won’t be the same for next generations.

One of my most favourite strips was called ‘The Numskulls‘ and they lived in a boy’s body (Edd Case was his name, Wikipedia informs me) and handled all his body functions. I miss having to fight off my cousins so I could get a read of them first. I think the Beano and Dandy are easily forgotten but are a unique part of Scottish heritage and although not as prominent or as obviously Scottish as the Broons or Oor Wullie, it should still be remembered the we came up with Dennis the Menace at least five days before the U.S so that makes him ours hah!
